October 2nd, 2024: New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra

This eclipse today is truly charged with energy and forms a full Libra stellium. The South Node, Moon, Sun, Dark Lilith, and Mercury are all tightly conjunct and aligned perfectly in the sign of Libra. A stellium like this amplifies the energy of Libra and brings a concentrated focus on themes of balance, harmony, relationships, and fairness. Because this stellium is happening during a solar eclipse, it’s safe to assume we’re all being pushed toward some important shifts right now.

Libra energy looks at where there is imbalance, where justice needs to be restored, and how we can create more peace. Eclipses trigger events or movements that shift the status quo, and when we’re dealing with a sign like Libra, who is deeply tied to justice, equality, and diplomacy, we may start seeing discussions around social justice, legal systems, and diplomatic relations coming to the forefront. These themes are heightened right now. Countries, governments, large organizations – they’re all under scrutiny around fairness and ethics. Old systems of imbalance will be challenged. This eclipse will bring course correction, accountability, and healing to these areas.

On a personal level, you’ll have to see which house Libra influences in your birth chart to really understand how this will play out for you. This house will address the imbalances of the life’s themes being affected by the eclipse. It can play out in relationships, friendships, partnerships, and finding ways to make things equal. This eclipse might bring sudden changes or realizations and with the South Node influence, we’re being asked to release old patterns that are preventing balance from being achieved.

Dark Lilith also speaks to reclaiming your personal power. Especially if it’s been suppressed in the name of keeping the peace. The protests and rallies we see right now are a direct influence of this, with Mars in Cancer protecting our nurturing, home, and safety net. Lilith doesn’t mind bringing disruption and Mars in Cancer working in the background at a square is very protective over its peace. Collectively, it could manifest as civil unrest or movements for equality. People may feel driven to confront oppressive systems or relationships and demand justice where it’s been denied. Another thing that comes under the spotlight during this eclipse is communication, agreements, and negotiations. We might see diplomatic discussions, trade agreements, or important legislations being debated or renegotiated.

This eclipse beyond the super-charged stellium in Libra, is also wrapping up the last 18 month cycle of eclipses on the Aries-Libra axis with this being part five of a six series season. Since early 2023, we’ve been under the influence of these signs which represent two sides of each scale: individuality and partnership. This has been a time of learning how to assert ourselves while also maintaining harmony in relationships. Today’s eclipse is one of the final moments of this chapter where we’re seeing the culmination of the lessons from this cycle.

The final eclipse in this Aries-Libra series will take place in March 2025 which marks the official end of this energetic phase. Between now and then, we’re wrapping up unfinished business in our relationships, resolving conflicts, and finding balance in areas we’ve experienced imbalance. This eclipse is pushing us to integrate the lessons of the past 18 months and make adjustments where necessary.

As we move into January 2025, the moon’s nodes will enter Virgo and Pisces and bring forth a whole new series of eclipses that we got a preview of in September. This upcoming cycle will shift our focus to themes related to spirituality, practicality, and healing. It’s going to be a season where compassion, surrender, and a greater connection to the spiritual side of life come into focus. Many of us will be called to let go of rigid structures and perfectionism (Virgo) in favor of embracing the flow, intuition, and emotional depth of Pisces.

The last time we experienced eclipses on the Virgo-Pisces axis was between 2006 and 2008. Looking back at that period can provide deeper insight into the themes we might revisit during this new cycle.

There’s been some speculation on the Neptune conjunction to the September lunar eclipse in Pisces, so I highlighted some weather patterns from the last time we had these series of eclipses:

  • Organizations came forward to support victims of Hurricane Katrina .

  • Cyclone Sidr in Bangladesh causing flooding and humanitarian cries.

  • Housing market collapsed.

  • The 2008 global financial crisis.

  • Lebanon War.

  • The Iraq war highlighted conflict and sacrifices between soldiers and civilians.

  • Barack Obama as the first African American President whose vision closely aligned with Pisces themes of healing and forward-looking visions.
